Hillary Diane Rodham Clinton is an American politician and diplomat who served as First Lady of the United States from 1993 to 2001. She served as the junior United States Senator from New York from 2001 to 2009 and 67th U.S. Secretary of State from 2009 to 2013. In 2008, she sought and lost the Democratic Party’s nomination for President of the United States to then-Senator Barack Obama. She became the Democratic nominee for President in the 2016 election.
