He is best known for his role as Leo McGarry on the NBC political drama series The West Wing (1999–2006), which earned him five consecutive Primetime Emmy Award nominations from 2000 to 2004 and won once in 2002. Spencer was also nominated for a Golden Globe Award for the role in 2003.
